Shakespeare Gift Guide

As we get deeper and deeper into the holiday season, the quest for that perfect gift can be a challenging one. It can be especially challenging to find a gift for that one person in your life with unique and particular interests. You don’t know anything about Shakespeare. How are you supposed to be trusted to find that special Shakespeare gift?

Sure, you can do a quick search for Shakespeare gifts on Amazon or Etsy and there are a lot of great options, but buying from specific Shakespeare-centered shops and organizations can provide truly unique options. Plus, you get a great gift AND support a great organization. It’s like a double gift!

Here are a few of my favorite shops to browse:

Folger Shakespeare Library: There is a wide variety of products available from books, play recordings, and clothing to jewelry, toys, and home decor. Some of my personal favorites are the magnetic poetry kit, Lady MacBeth’s guest soap, and the English Country Christmas album.

Shakespeare’s Globe: Besides finding recordings of some of the best Shakespeare productions, the Globe shop has a wonderfully eclectic assortment of gift options. Browsing through the offerings was highly enjoyable for me (a Shakespeare nerd), but a few key items really sparked joy for me: the ornaments, “I like this place” tote bag, the awesome socks, and the “Something Wicked” t-shirt.

Royal Shakespeare Company: This shop also has a wide offering of top-notch production recordings, plus a delightful assortment of unique gift ideas. There are toy theatres, games, beautiful cuff bracelets, and a kids shirt that says “Exit pursued by a bear.” Or, if you love stationary like I do, there are some great journals.

Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust: What better place to find Shakespeare themed gifts than the birthplace of the bard himself. They have one of the best collections of books available, including a facsimile of the First Folio. It is the closest any normal person will get to owning a first folio. In addition, they have a wide variety of fun gifts and exclusive collections, including beautiful silk scarves, an adorable teddy bear, and a gel pen that looks like a quill!

Bard Shirts & Hark Clothing Co.: Is the best place to find any style of Shakespeare apparel you could imagine. There are a variety of t-shirt designs with different colors and cuts. There are fun leggings and a fanny pack! They just launched a cool varsity style jacket

Jackiz Writers Collection Kickstarter: There is some delayed gratification for this gift, but it is so worth it for this unique item. For just $27-$30, you can get an adorable Shakespeare figurine. For $33-$36, you can get a special gold figurine. Do you want both? Go ahead. There are combo options. The figurines have an estimated delivery of August 2020, and you can always give a little more to help support the company and get bonus incentive items!
